This is my Nana's Irish Soda Bread recipe.
For this recipe, you will need:
- 3 1/3 C whole wheat flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp cream of tartar
- 1 pint buttermilk (add a bit at a time)
- Preheat oven to 400 F
- Sieve Flour, Salt, Baking Soda & Cream of Tartar
- Make a well in the center of the flour ingredients
- Pour in Buttermilk and mix to make a soft dough.
- Turn dough on to floured table.
- Knead to make a smooth ball.
- Press into a round flat, about 2 inches thick.
- Place on to floured baking pan.
- Cut a cross on the top.
- Bake for about 30 minutes.
